Looking for help with entering awards?

AwardsYou may have read our blog about how to approach the Queens Awards so we were delighted when our client President Engineering Group Ltd (PEGL) was selected to receive the prestigious Queen’s Award for International Trade recently, with our help and guidance.

The Queens’ Awards is arguably the most highly acclaimed and widely recognised awards in the world.  Securing a Queens’ Award is a big deal to companies and many go on to achieve more than one award, as they recognise the huge difference this can make to their business.

In total, only 105 companies across the UK received a Queens Awards for international trade this year and that is from literally thousands of entries.

PEGL, one of the 105 lucky winners, is made up of three business units: Bestobell which manufactures valves for the industrial, marine and liquefied natural gas industries; Conflow, produces safety equipment for the mining industry and Bretby Gammatech, which designs and produces monitoring equipment for mining.

In PEGL’s case, the company was recognised for “achieving consistent international sales growth over the past three years, with currently 88% of its turnover from overseas business”.

One of the reasons that the Queens Awards is so prestigious is because it results in an invitation for two representatives of the company to receive their award from the Queen, or one of the Royal Family, at a Reception at Buckingham Palace.   But what the Queens Awards also encourages is that businesses use it as an opportunity for the whole company and its suppliers and customers to celebrate together.  Each company receives an official presentation to its employees back at its premises and it can be a huge boost to morale and motivation.  So well done to PEGL – you are well deserved winners!

They say good things come in threes and this is certainly true of PEGL which is on a winning streak at the moment!  After securing the Queens Award on her majesty’s official birthday – 21st April, the following day PEGL’s Apprentices, working in conjunction with Bradfield School won the Get up to Speed Innovation and Design challenge.  This was a challenge involving dozens of Sheffield schools being supported by some of the region’s and indeed the world’s most highly acclaimed engineering companies.

Two days after the award, the company’s Bretby Gammatech business won the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce’s ‘Excellence in International Business’ award.  The business was commended on its international strategy, which has seen it secure new contracts in Japan, Poland and India over the past 12 months and its recent growth into Turkey, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, South Africa, Vietnam and Indonesia.

Success in awards not only has a huge impact on the morale and motivation of a company, it is very good for business too.  It can open up endless opportunities for networking, collaboration and further developing business on an international scale.

Winning a Queens Award, or indeed any award, is not easy.  The entry process is rigorous and takes time to complete.  It is also a much easier and more successful process if you have the expertise of someone who has completed the entry forms many times before and knows what the judges are looking for.
