Scarborough hotel awarded for its five star coffee treatment
South Yorkshire-based The Heavenly Coffee Company is celebrating with one of its customers, The Crown Spa in Scarborough, after the hotel was awarded 5 Cups along with the accolade for best espresso at the national Beverage Standards Awards.
The hotel’s Taste Café Bar won the award for the taste, body, balance and visual appearance of its Espresso coffee, which was made from one of The Heavenly Coffee company’s own unique blends. The competition is judged by mystery shoppers, who visit hundreds of coffee shops and restaurants throughout the UK and it also takes into account the knowledge of staff who sell the drink.
David Chambers, General Manager at The Crown Spa Hotel in Scarborough, said: “We are delighted to have won this really prestigious award for our coffee. This is a result of the excellent service that we receive from Katie and the team at The Heavenly Coffee Company. Over the past five years, they have taught our staff so much about coffee, the blends, how to grind the beans properly, how to serve the coffee and even about the many different coffee origins, so we all can speak knowledgeably about them to customers. We are so proud of the award, which is a great achievement for our staff.”
The Heavenly Coffee Company has been supplying The Crown Spa Hotel for the past five years, after meeting David at a local food show. Katie Evans, Managing Director of The Heavenly Coffee Company impressed him with her passion for coffee, combined with her company’s ‘no pressure’ approach.
David adds: “We had sold coffee from one of the big brands in the past. We didn’t get the service we do now and were constantly under pressure to increase volumes as part of the contracts we were tied into. Working with The Heavenly Coffee Company has been fantastic - their level of customer service, their training, their knowledge and their support. The Heavenly Coffee Company has given us the passion and understanding of coffee and this has resulted not only in winning this award but also allowing us to significantly increase sales from our Taste Café Bar.”
The Crown Spa Hotel not only buys coffee from The Heavenly Coffee Company, but also speciality tea and selected artisan cold drinks. Each of the guest bedrooms now features a cafetiere and a bag of Heavenly blended coffee for guests to enjoy during their stay.
David was particularly impressed with the support he received from The Heavenly Coffee Company last year when he asked them for a raffle prize for a charity cycle ride he was doing from London to Paris to raise money for children’s charity Action Medical Research.
David says: “I expected Heavenly may be able to give us a hamper or something like that. They actually created their own blend of coffee for the cycle challenge and had 100 bags of the coffee branded up and donated them to us, which alone raised over £500. That’s what you call going the extra mile! - a really generous and thoughtful offer.”
