Show your support this Pride Month

Pride Month

Every June in the UK, Pride Month serves as a powerful platform for the LGBTQ+ community to celebrate progress, champion equal rights and shine a spotlight on the importance of diversity, inclusion and equity across the globe.

Businesses have a unique opportunity to not only support Pride but also demonstrate a genuine commitment to creating inclusive workplace cultures.

Why is Pride Month important?

Pride Month serves as a vital reminder of the challenges the LGBTQ+ community has faced in the fight for equal rights. It’s a time to reflect on how far the LGBTQ+ community has come, while acknowledging the ongoing journey. Pride is about visibility, solidary, respect, acceptance and human rights.

The Pride flag has become a unifying symbol of this movement, representing not only diversity but also the strength and resilience of the LGBTQ+ community.

The meaning behind the Pride Flag

Originally designed in 1978 by Gilbert Baker with six colours, the Pride flag has evolved to reflect the broad spectrum of identities within the LGBTQ+ community. Each colour holds its own meaning:

  • Red – Life
  • Orange – Healing
  • Yellow – New ideas and sunlight
  • Green – Growth and prosperity
  • Blue – Harmony and peace
  • Violet – Spirit
  • Black/Brown – People of colour
  • White/Pink/Blue – The transgender community

Displaying the flag during Pride Month is a visible sign of support and a celebration of inclusivity, often used in marches and Pride festivals to show unity.
