5 reasons why you should consider having a new website
Here at Dragonfly PR, we’re really excited because we’re just about to launch our new website! There are a number of reasons why a new website is essential for a business. In this blog, we share with you the top 5 reasons why it’s a good idea to have your website re-designed at least once every two years….
- You need to be at the top of the search engine
What Google does brilliantly is to scan through the billions of web pages of content out there and deliver what it classes as the most relevant and useful information to the end user. Sites that are regularly updated are more likely to be found in a Google search. When we design and build a new website for a client, SEO is an essential part of this. We don’t just design a site that is easy to navigate and looks good, we give careful consideration to key search terms and phrases, optimising their usage to ensure you have the best chance of being found by potential customers. When we design and build a new website, it’s a great opportunity for us to review your keywords, optimise your content and ensure all the meta data is accurate and up to date, with pages correctly titles, full meta descriptions included, photos correctly labelled and links built into the content.
2. It creates the right image for your business
A new website is a great opportunity to take advantage of the latest technology and functionality, so your site looks great and is easy to navigate. Trends in web design change regularly and what might have looked fantastic two years ago, soon becomes ‘old hat’. Remember when most websites used Flash and sites were built with multiple drop-down navigation bars? No one wants that anymore, the trend is for downward scrolling sites, that are navigated more easily via icons and graphic and that feature integrated video and easily accessible social media channels. Over the past 15 years, we have created dozens of websites for b2b companies, with fantastic results – could you be next to benefit?
3. It helps new visitors to find you
If the number of visitors is low or not growing, then it’s a good idea to refresh the design and content of your website. The type of customer you are looking to attract may have changed in the past few months or years, so your website may not be appealing to the right people. Consider how easy information is to find on your website and this could be the starting point for developing a new site. Also, think about how you would like your new website to appeal to a new audience and what it needs to do this – if you’re not sure, then we can help!
If you are not currently making it easy for visitors to find the information or carry out the tasks they want to do, then it’s a waste of time. At the start of our design process, we work closely with customers to map out the structure of the new site and run through the complete customer experience you are looking for – from all different audience perspectives. That way we can ensure we design and build for you a website that is reaching the right people, in the way they want to be reached.
4. To make your site not just mobile friendly, but mobile-interactive
Internet usage via mobile has grown rapidly, with it overtaking desktop devices significantly. In 2015, a report concluded that time spent browsing the Internet on a mobile device was 4.3 hours per day (on average) compared with 2.8 hours per day on desktop devices and this trend is set to continue! This just goes to show how people are searching for website whilst they’re out on the move, rather than waiting until we’re in front of our PC. Businesses therefore need to make sure their websites are mobile responsible and interactive. The website also needs to offer a really good user experience on mobile devices, otherwise you may find you are losing out. So our advice is put mobile first and let us help you!
- It gives you a chance to review and set out a clear digital strategy
If your website has not been redesigned for a few years, there’s a good chance that you may not have a digital strategy in place. In simple terms, a digital strategy is a plan to succeed online. We can help with your digital strategy, starting with your website – analysing what you hope to achieve through the site, set some goals and targets, as well as a path to achieve them. If you are a building product manufacturer, such as a roof tile manufacturer, for example, it may be that your digital strategy could be made up of some, or all of the following:
- Regular social media posts to attract architects through Twitter, you may be looking at attracting interior designers through Pinterest and builders/contractors through Facebook and Linkedin to connect directly with potential end clients.
- In the plan, could be creating ‘how to’ videos to demonstrate your products in a clear and simple way, this could be in the form of a CPD seminar for architects, or more practically based for builders and installers.
- Blog articles will undoubtedly be part of the digital strategy. We would write blogs containing unique, authoritative content with a good spread of keywords. We would also look at how blogs could be shared through Linkedin and Twitter.
- Monthly e-newsletters work really well and we could design and write these, sending them to customers and prospects telling them about your latest construction project or new product. All the time, we’re focusing on generating content and using it in the best way possible across lots of different channels.
All this means your website becomes the hub for new content, which gets shared and again generates more traffic back to your website. If it looks fresh, interactive and is kept up to date, then it will have an impact on converting prospects to customers.
