What are the benefits of blogging for building product manufacturers?

The benefits of blogging are undisputable. It has been proven, time and time again that blogs work by increasing the number of visitors to a website. In fact, they often account for up to 60% of visitors. Or, to put it another way, if you’re not currently blogging, you’re missing out on around two thirds of traffic.

The reason why blogging works is simple – it keeps your website refreshed, active and up to date. When a website isn’t regularly updated, search engines such as Google view at as a ‘dead’ entity – with nothing new to offer. It not surprising really that this happens, for example, how often can you update your ‘About us’ page or, for us, say that you specialise in PR for the building and construction sector!

Well, blogging helps solve both of those problems.

Each time you write and post a blog, it's one more indexed page on your website, which means it is more likely to appear high up the search engines and drive traffic to your website via organic search. It’s because of this that blogs are a great way to let Google and other search engines know that your website is active and constantly being refreshed. As such frequent, relevant and timely blogs are a great way to stay up the rankings.

Blogs for the construction sector and building product manufacturers help you get noticed on social media, too. For example, every time you post a blog on your website you are creating content that you and other people can share on social media - Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook -- which helps expose your business to a new audience that may not know you yet.

A note of caution, though, blogs need to be relevant! Try and resist the temptation to have them generated by so-called ‘online blog writers’. We recently began providing PR and social media services for a new client in the construction sector who had been quoted £124 for 10 blogs from one of these sites. Needless to say, they soon stopped and we now write all of their content.

So, what are the benefits of blogging? Well, for starters, it drives new traffic to your website that may otherwise have gone to your competitors. It does this by constantly refreshing your website, which is what Google likes, whilst providing engaging content for your social media.
