Let's hear it for Yorkshire - God's own country
Ah, Yorkshire! Breath-taking landscapes, friendly locals, interesting history, a host of talented actors, musicians, sportsmen and some of the best food and drink you can come across – this county has it all.
As you should be able to tell, all of us here at Dragonfly PR are extremely proud of our Yorkshire roots and we love working here. Yorkshire is home to a whole host of businesses that have a massively positive effect on our economy. Some of the most popular and successful manufacturers that are loved throughout the UK and beyond stem from here. Take Taylor’s, for example, who may we say make the finest tea in all of the land.
We really do have a lot to be proud of about our roots and the companies that grow from them. So to pay homage to this beautiful part of the UK, here’s a few more reasons as to why we love calling Yorkshire our home:
The food and drink – of course!
Aside from the obvious delight that is Yorkshire Puddings and the best brew in the world, (have we already mentioned we’re Yorkshire Tea fans?), we have a wide range of some of the most delectable dishes, eateries and food and drink brands. From a traditional Sunday roast with all of the trimmings to a small meal of Bonns crackers, topped with Wensleydale Cheese and Hendersons Relish, all washed down with a Barnsley Bitter. Come to Yorkshire and you can eat like a king with the multitude delicious bites on offer.
The landscape
Who needs to travel overseas when you have blue flag beaches just a short drive away in Whitby. Granted, you can’t always get the sun, but the views and the fish and chips make up for that tenfold. Also the amazing views from not one, but two national parks with their rolling hills and babbling brooks are just breath-taking.
The architecture
As well as the beautiful views the land has to offer us, we also have some of the most impressive and historical buildings within the UK. Just one afternoon walking around York and you’re transported back to times of the Ancient Romans, Saxons, and Vikings and of course the Normans, who were responsible for the construction of the York Minster, the largest (and dare we say most beautiful) Gothic cathedral in Northern Europe.
The folk and their dialect
We know we’re completely biased, but we think Yorkshiremen are some of the friendliest people you will ever come across. We will always have a smile on our face and the time to stop and chat if you ask us to. That is if you can understand our fantastically diverse mixture of broad accents (when Rebecca’s Barnsley twang kicks in it’s as strong as they come – nar then that does mek fer interestin’ listenin’).
The talent
Yorkshire is awash with talented people! From musicians such as Kaiser Chiefs, Kate Rusby, Jarvis Cocker and the Arctic Monkeys (not counting their latest album according to Rebecca), to some of the most influential and important writers of our time like the Bronte Sisters. We also have some great athletes including Jessica Ennis-Hill, the Brownlee Brothers and Nicola Adams. Yorkshire has produced an amazing level of talent that has been and will continue to entertain people throughout the world for many years.
Oh, and not forgetting a team of exceptionally talented writers and public relations professionals that specialise in maximising press coverage for clients in the b2b, construction and manufacturing sectors!
Now then, where were we? Oh yes, Yorkshire! Aside from the ones listed above, we know there are plenty of other reasons to love our county. So, over the next couple of weeks we’re inviting anyone that loves the region as much as we do, to visit our Facebook page and tell us your favourite thing about Yorkshire and why. Those who do will be entered into a draw to WIN A HAMPER OF SOME OF THE FINEST FOOD AND DRINK that our county has to offer. Go to https://www.facebook.com/DragonflyPublicRelations/.
